Sturgeon Moon (2 images)

Today I discovered that August’s full moon is also known as the “Sturgeon Moon”. Some Native American tribes used this name because during the time of this full moon, the sturgeon in the Great Lakes were most readily caught. Other Native American tribes called this moon “Blueberry Moon” and “Green Corn Moon”.

There appears to be a bumper crop of kelp this summer, judging from the amount floating on the surface of the ocean. “Kelp Moon”, anyone?

August mornings by the sea or a lake is pure magic with it’s pink and blue tones, and the fullmoon really adds that little extra touch. I like the first one most because of the rocks, it brings the photo alive to me.
