moss’s elfin

I saw a few of these butterflies fluttering around the yard yesterday and managed to sneak up on this one while it was sunning itself on the ground. I’d never seen this type of butterfly before, so I did some research and found out it is called a Moss’s Elfin butterfly, and is considered a species at risk due to dwindling habitat. So I was happy to know that there are a few living in our area.

It was cool to find out about it. Apparently these butterflies spend their adult lives in one small area so hopefully I will see them again.
