This is an awesome texture shot. When gleaning old lighthouse logs and books I have read about keeper’s families collecting trailing arbutus in the dunes. I have no idea what it looks like or how it smells. I’ve bing-ed and google-ed. Do you have any photos of the blossoms? What is the attraction…aside from the apparently spectacular bark.
Very cool!

Thank you!
Beautiful image.
Thanks!
I love an Arbutus Tree especially when it turns its real colour in fall. Great shot.
Thank you!
Wow, very unusual! Happy Sunday!
Thanks, same to you!

Thanks. I haven’t taken any blossom pictures as of yet, but here’s a photo by someone else: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4AipEn2_yak/UYbQgkn9tZI/AAAAAAAAFa8/phDxuS5pXhQ/s1600/Madrona-7D1_3340.png and a good article: http://www.arbutusarts.com/arbutus-tree.html
I love the way the peeling layers have different tones of the same colour. Clever image.
Thanks very much!
