Last Saturday I made my way to the south end of the island’s largest lake. Located here is the public “swimming hole”, which also serves as a perfect spot from which to launch a kayak. I had time to take a single picture before the kayak’s owner appeared, set his craft in the water, and paddled away.
Even though it was a long weekend and tourist season is well underway, there was no one else around. The weather, while pleasantly warm, is not yet quite hot enough for swimming, and is just now coaxing the daisies into bloom.
The newly emerged dragonflies were a constant hum around me. On this day they were too skittish for photos, but a lone butterfly posed obligingly. I wonder how it managed to get so tattered this early in the season.
